I’m not a big fan of these social shopping sites like Fab or One
Kings Lane. I actually think they may be the ruination of society as we know
it…not really but we should be saving that scrilla for the next big trip, not
purchasing robot shaped tea infusers, right? Having said that,I spent an
enormous amount of time yesterday perusing the newly launched site called Bly, which
is like a virtual flea market. Bly will visit a new city every two months and
feature local artisans and vintage wares. This month they are in Mumbai,India.
The photography and stories are incredible. You can almost hear the clatter of
rickshaws and smell the aromas of the street (which in Mumbai may or may not be a good
thing). Bly also gives back 5% of the proceeds from the collection to a local
non-profit, which is great. In Mumbai that 5% will do mountains of good, so if
you must buy that trinket, check out Bly. Next stop is La Paz. I can’t wait!
Find Bly here: www.projectbly.com. Be
prepared stay a while. It is fascinating.
